ICI Mace Snag Tester

The ICI Mace Snag Tester is designed to quickly and accurately simulate snagging phenomena that occur under normal wearing conditions. The instrument uses a rotating drum to hold fabric samples while pin-hammers impact the surface. Tungsten carbide pins on the hammer mimic sharp objects that catch or pull fibers and yarns from the fabric, allowing evaluation of snag resistance for knitted, woven, and other snag-prone textiles.
Application
(1) Knitted outerwear fabrics, including sweaters and cardigans.
(2) Woven outerwear fabrics, such as shirts, jackets, and coats.
(3) Synthetic filament fabrics and fabrics with textured yarns.
(4) Quality control in apparel and textile manufacturing to assess snag resistance.
(5) Research and development of fabrics with improved snag and wear properties.
Standards
(1) ASTM D3939 — Standard Test Method for Snagging of Fabrics
(2) GB/T 11047 — Textile Snag Resistance Test
(3) JIS L1058 — Method for Determining Snagging of Woven and Knitted Fabrics

FAQ
(1) What is this product?
A ICI Mace Snag Tester for evaluating the snagging resistance of knitted and woven fabrics.
(2) What is it used for?
To simulate real-life snagging conditions and assess how easily fibers or yarns are pulled from the fabric surface.
(3) Why is it important?
Ensures fabric durability and quality by identifying fabrics prone to snagging, critical for apparel and synthetic textiles.
(4) What problems does it solve for users?
Provides reproducible, quantitative results for snag resistance, enabling improved quality control and material selection.
(5) What types of fabrics can be tested?
Knitted fabrics, woven fabrics, synthetic filament fabrics, textured yarn fabrics, and other snag-prone textiles.
(6) How is the test performed?
The fabric sample is mounted on the rotating drum.
Pin-hammers with tungsten carbide pins impact and rotate over the sample surface.
After a set number of cycles, the degree of snagging is assessed.
An audible buzzer indicates the end of the test, and results are recorded for analysis.
