Taber Linear Abraser 5750 Operating Instructions

The Taber Linear Abraser 5750 is used to test the wear resistance of contoured and polished surfaces such as plastics, rubber, leather, textiles, plating, automotive parts, freely disassembled components, lacquers, printed graphics, etc.
Scope of application.
Suitable for dry abrasion and wet abrasion tests to evaluate the abrasion resistance, scratch resistance (single or multiple scratches) and color transfer (usually abrasion discoloration or abrasion fastness) of products, etc.
Routine installation:
1. Open the instrument package and make sure no components are missing.
2. Snap the rocker locking device onto the load bar (as shown).
3. Attach the rocker to the load bar and tighten the snail using a 9/64" inch hexagon socket.
The rocker bearings are factory set, for further adjustment, please refer to page 23.
4. Attach the grinding head fixture to the bottom of the rocker using the hexagon socket.
5. Use the rocker locking device to lock the rocker arm suspension.
NOTE: To prevent damage to the rocker when installing the grinding head jig, the rocker liner material is nylon.
Rocker locking device
The rocker locking device facilitates the replacement of the grinding head, the cleaning of the sample and the observation of the grinding head jig or other accessories.
Use of the rocker locking device.
To use, lift the grinding head near the rocker bearing, and then snap the retaining ring onto the lower side of the grinding head fixture.
To unlock the rocker, lift the rocker up, then snap the snap ring to the groove of the load rod and gently lower the rocker.
WARNING:Please hold the rocker tightly when it is not locked, so as not to inadvertently drop the rocker and break the sample or damage the grinding head.

1. Place two 2 amp fuses in the fuse box under the power supply at the back of the unit.
2. Follow the arrow on the fuse box to select the desired voltage installation method.
3. Place the fuse box into the voltage converter according to the voltage installation method selected.
Start the power supply
1. Connect the instrument to 110V or 230V power supply according to the local voltage. For your convenience, two types of leads are provided. Please select the appropriate one and discard the other one.
2、Turn on the switch. The switch button is located on top of the wire at the back of the instrument (as shown in Figure 7), and then you can proceed to the next operation.
Set the running distance
The Linear Abraser has five running distances, which can be adjusted manually when changes are needed. The reference label inside the cover shows the run length corresponding to the small hole in the drive crank.
When the run length needs to be changed the following steps can be set.
Setting the run mode
The Linear Abraser has two modes: Run Mode and Surface Dressing Mode. Press the "MODE" key to switch between the two modes. The first line of the LCD display shows the current mode.

The speed can be set from "2-75" cycles per minute. The Abrator will store the last setting as the current speed. This speed will be the default speed until the operator makes changes to the run speed. The display will show the current speed.
The following instructions apply in both Run Mode and Surface Dressing Mode. The instrument must be in the "non-running state" when the following settings are made.
Preset speed: The instrument has 6 speed preset keys on the control panel. These are 2, 15, 25, 30, 40 and 60 cycles per minute. The speed can be adjusted by pressing the corresponding key.
Manual speed setting: By following the steps below, the operator can set the instrument running speed to other values.
